Different by design
I'm Fabi, a Surrey-based recent graphic design graduate from Germany mainly focused on branding and identity, web design, and campaign strategy, but I’m as open to different disciplines as I am to trying new hair colours (which I change every few months).
As a teenager I actually decided to never do graphic design because I didn’t want to manipulate people, but now this power to influence human behaviour with visual communication is my deepest inspiration. This change in perspective was influenced by surreal paintings I made in my free time, which showed me the magic of connecting with others without using words.
My design approach is rooted in creating the motivation in people to make a real social impact. I’ve always wanted to help others, which also lead me to a part-time job in residential care for disabled individuals before I moved to the UK, and it’s why a lot of my work is focused on advocacy and accessibility. Target audiences aren’t just numbers and demographics, they’re humans! Understanding and empathising with them allows me to build deep connections and create empowering, user-centred outcomes.
I’m often drawn to integrating interactivity and user experience into my work, both on- and offline. You will also commonly find me work with illustrations, rough authentic textures, or bold colours. Another big influence is my curiosity and desire to explore new mediums and platforms, most recently bookbinding and screen printing, though I’m currently working on expanding my Blender and motion design skills.
